Living Library

Living Library is an excellent on-line resource bank. It provides a completely safe environment for children to carry out research and find resources, as well as providing other benefits such as an on-line dictionary. The library is currently free to the children of our school but details must not be passed on to anyone outside of our school (this will be monitored by RM and the Local Authority)

The library can be accessed at www.livinglibrary.co.uk

Internet Safety

General Tips

-Do start a conversation with your child about Internet safety.
-Do know how to check your child's Internet History.
-Do buy some kind of Internet filtering program.
-Talk to you child regularly about their activities on the Internet. Do you know who your child is talking to?
-Don't let your child have an Internet accessible computer in their room.
-Don't let your child have a wireless laptop in their room (see above!)
-Don't let your child have a webcam for ANY reason, unsupervised.

Other Dos and Don'ts

Do: Talk to your child/children about how they use the internet and their favourite sites. Encourage them to show you how they access the net and to talk to you about any concerns they may have regarding online chat.
Do: Keep the computer in a public space - if a predator sees a living room/kitchen in the background on the webcam rather than a child's bedroom, he will probably be less likely to embark on attempting to groom your child.
Do: Try to get up to speed with the new technology.

Do: Remind your children that any people they only know through the internet (and not in the real world) may not be who they say they are.
Do: Make it clear to them that you will occasionally check what sites they are using and will also sometimes ask questions to make sure they know the person they're messaging.
Do: Check the privacy settings covering their profiles on-line.
Do: Remind your children that anything they post is likely to be visible to the world.

Don’ts for children
Don't: post any personal information (such as your email address or mobile number) on your profile/s.
Don't: post anything online you wouldn't want the world to see.
Don't: continue online conversations that make you feel uncomfortable or suspicious about whom it is you are talking to. Report these to CEOP via their 'report abuse' facility.
Don't: agree to meet anyone you only know via the internet.
Don't: open any attachments or links if you don't know (in the real world) the person who has sent them.

Don't: use your real name in chat rooms - pick a nickname just to use online.
Don't: assume that the people you are chatting to online are really who they claim to be.
Don't: keep any anxieties to yourself about approaches to you or conversations you've had online. Talk to your parents and/or an adult you trust. If not, you can call Childline on 0800 1111.
Don’t: accept strangers who contact your online profile as friends ¿ say NO or just ignore them. Don't be tempted to say YES.
Don’t: agree if someone suggests keeping your chats a secret - tell your parents or a trusted adult.

Our Responsibilities

As a school we will monitor all activity on our own blog.
We are NOT able to monitor any other blogs, and we are not responsible for any issues arising from external blogs.
THIS MUST BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND IT IS YOUR DUTY TO REPORT TO CEOP OR THE POLICE ANY CONCERNS YOU MAY HAVE.

Mad Scientist Day

By now your children will have told you all about our plans for Friday, Mad Scientist Day. We have combined the day with 'Red Nose Day' and children have been asked to wear non-uniform and dress as scientists. Remember this could cover a multitude of professions: bio-chemist; zoologist; meterologist; geographer; palaeontologist; seizmologist; botanist; archaeologist; forensic scientist. The list is endless and children could dress up as any or just be a weird or wacky scientist! As with all non-uniform days, there is a cost and we ask that children bring £1 each to add to the charity funds.
